Information for Parents

Martial Arts can help your child or children learn valuable life skills.

At Doug's Dojang, adults and children train together and learn from each other - regardless of age.

Doug's teaching places particular emphasis on developing an understanding of Taekwon-do and it's practical use in self-defence.  This means that training is useful and enjoyable for all ages and abilities, because the focus is on being able to know and use your Taekwon-do, than being an outstanding athlete.

Doug also centres his teaching on the concept that Taekwon-do is not about kicking or punching - it is about learning to be a better person, and helping to make the world a more peaceful and safe place for everyone.

If you come along to one of our training sessions, you'll hear the Taekwondo tenets being recited at the beginning of each class. This is part of the protocol of the art, but it's also a verbal commitment from each student that they will do the things being talked about - to try your best, always keep learning, and to be polite, respectful and helpful.

A good student of Taekwon-do will demonstrate these values not just in the training hall, but throughout their daily lives.

At Doug's Dojang, we take children's safety very seriously. Doug's Dojang is fully insured and compliant with Blue Card requirements. Children are not permitted to leave the training hall without a parent/carer present.  Your child will also be directly supervised by an adult when accessing toilet facilities (either indoor or outdoor).

Parents and/or carers are always welcomed in our training hall and encouraged to stay and watch any training session.

If you have other questions about Taekwon-do or our club, please try the FAQs page or simply contact us and ask.
