Doug has 30 years experience in teaching Taekwon-do and self-defence as well as delivering group fitness and personal training sessions. Doug's philosophy is that all martial arts are fantastic for physical, mental and moral growth. He has cross-trained in Jiu Jitsu, Judo, Zen Do Kai and Boxing. However, Doug has personally found that Taekwon-do is his chosen art and the one that he would recommend.

Doug is fully qualified and holds active Level 3 registration with Fitness Australia, as well as a Blue Card and First Aid certification.  His understanding of athletic performance, team development and personal growth stems from over twenty-five years playing, captaining and coaching football (soccer), with his senior history all being at first grade level.

In Taekwon-do, Doug is a registered 6th Degree Black Belt, International Instructor and Examiner with ITF Taekwon-do Australia. He has been an instructor and coach for clubs, individuals and national/international champions, including twice being a coach for the Australian national team.

Doug also has a personal interest in self-improvement at any age, with recent studies in Qigong. This follows on from achieving a bachelor level degree as a mature-aged student. Doug currently practises as a podiatrist in the treatment of high-risk feet. This is an area close to his heart as someone who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for over thirty years.

Doug is also a proud Rockhampton man who believes in locals supporting locals.

DOUG's DOJANG

Our club symbol is the yellow lotus flower, chosen to represent our students. Through their martial art, each person starts from any beginning and grows in strength, knowledge and confidence to reach their full potential.

Doug's Dojang welcomes anyone who is willing to learn. Classes involve a mixture of ages (generally from 6+ years), all abilities and people from all walks of life.   The long history of teaching in the club has shown that when adults and children learn and train together, each one benefits from the other.

No prior experience is needed to join the club and beginners are well catered for. The Taekwon-do journey is one of lifelong learning.   Doug's Dojang also emphasises the development of the whole person, meaning not just physical prowess but also personal growth, whether child or adult.  As the instructor, Doug also believes in supporting club members to appreciate and support their community.

Club training is available three times per week, including a weekend option for those with busy lives.  Both our training halls are conveniently located Berserker, North Rockhampton.

ABOUT
TAEKWon-DO

Taekwon-do is the name of a Korean-based martial art made for self-defence, developed by General Choi Hong Hi. The five core teachings of Taekwon-do (known as the tenets) are courtesy, integrity, self-control, perserverance and indomitable spirit.

Beginning at white belt, you will progress in your training to cover all areas of the art of Taekwon-do, including patterns, sparring, breaking, self-defence and personal growth and development.

All martial arts are a fantastic way to improve yourself physically and mentally.  Taekwon-do specifically offers techniques that can be applied in all types of self-defence situations in real-life.

Taekwon-do enables people of all ages to improve their self-confidence and to set and achieve goals as they move through the belt levels and their lives. Taekwon-do is also ideal for children to develop coordination, an understanding of the body, respect and an appreciation of strong moral standards.

Come and try a session and let us show you martial arts at Doug's Dojang! The first two weeks of training are free, so you can choose if Taekwon-do is right for you.
